Honua Ola Bioenergy Employees Support Food Basket Donations in Honokaa
Today, 650 boxes of food are being distributed to families in Honokaa thanks to the efforts of The Food Basket, Honua Ola Bioenergy’s employees, and community volunteers.
Yesterday, December 22, 30 Honua Ola employees volunteered at The Food Basket warehouse in Hilo to work two, three-hour shifts putting together the 650 boxes containing milk, fruits and vegetables, canned goods, soups, casserole mixes, and cookies, all of which will be welcomed by families struggling to make ends meet.
Warren Lee, president of Honua Ola Bioenergy, co-founded The Food Basket in 1989 and serves as a board member. Lee commented, “Our employees are for the community – and from this community. We are committed to helping people who need food this holiday season and throughout the coming year. The demand for food donations on the Big Island has increased tremendously because of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Honua Ola is also supporting on a continuing basis The Food Basket’s Kupuna Pantry, which serves elderly, qualified low-income households in communities on the Hamakua Coast with food deliveries each month. The initial delivery of food was made on December 10 and will continue throughout 2021.
